Percy Jackson & The Olympians – Jo Reads a Kid’s Book

A few years ago I watched the movie adaptation of a kid’s book called The Lightning Thief.

I thought it was entertaining. Aimed at children, it did it’s job.

Soon after I went to a book store and found a set of the first three books in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series, so the price wasn’t bad and I thought WHY NOT?

Unfortunately it collected dust for a long time because I have more eyes for books than I do time to sit down and read them. When fans of this series started to ask me if I had read the books, I would be THAT asshole and say “Well I watched the movie, it was okay” and then I would listen to an extremely long rant about how messed up the movie was. As a long time Harry Potter fan, I hate when people tell me they have watched the movies. High five bitch! (to the face)

So a couple of days ago I finally read the first book.

I will say this, it is not a favorite.

Don’t get me wrong, the idea behind this story is amazing. If kids love it, then I am happy that it has created more book worms and lovers. I on the other hand, was a little bored with it.

This doesn’t mean I won’t continue. I am not even actually sure how many books are in the series, but I currently only own the first three, if after the first three I don’t change my mind then I will have to just deal and move on.

The idea is so incredible behind this, that I hope it only gets better. Greek Gods having babies all over the place that turn into demigods? yes please!

I am not going to tear this down to ashes because I realized that if I were a kid, I would have LOVED this book, but because I pay attention to detail and execution a little more now as an adult, it fell flat.

Come on Percy Jackson…let’s kick it up a notch!!

Currently . . .

I picked this up for $1.99 in the Kindle Firsts batch this month, and I will start it tonight. I hope for it to be my first review, even though it was not asked of me by anyone, I feel like it is a good start.

I picked this up at a comic book store in Philly, and I have volume one(this one) and volume two. It is a creative and interesting graphic novel and any newbies to graphic novels might want to pick it up. I love it!!

There is SOOOO much to say about this album and how wonderful it truly is. But for now, saying that it is a great soundtrack to my writing seems fitting enough.

I am a Human Mage who is kicking major ass right now. This just might be my favorite game in the Dragon Age series.
