Summer Reading Challenge: Updated

Reading

In case you missed it, I launched a summer reading challenge. The info can be found here.

I made my picks a while ago, but I have been getting extremely distracted by other books I desperately wanted to read..OOPS. Here’s an updated list. Some I have read already, others I am changing to better fit books I really want to read.

1. Read a book written by a new female author.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey  For now this is staying the same. It still has me intrigued.

2. Read a thriller or horror book.

Tokyo by Mo Hayder    changed my mind about this one. Not because it doesn’t seem interesting but I found one I am much more interested in reading. So I am adding I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes in its place.

3. Read the first book in a series you’ve been meaning to start.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, this book is always talked about, and it is the first in the series. Ive been meaning to read this series for over a year and I am finally giving it a shot.   the only reason I am completely striking this one out is because I finished reading it, rather quickly might I add. It is SO GOOD!!! I immediately jumped into the next one in the series which will bring me to the next change:

4. Read a fantasy novel.

Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan   Again not a change I am making because I don’t want to read this, but because I already read something in its place, which is Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas which again was AMAZEBALLS. haha

5. Read an extremely hyped up Young Adult novel.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, this is my first read for the challenge. EVERYONE has been talking about this book, and the thing that actually caught my attention is that it is apparently a retelling of 1001 nights. So this should be interesting.  I read this one already!! Also a very good and quick read!!

6. Read a classic novel.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, this category it came down to this one and the Grapes of Wrath, but this one was much smaller, and I needed something to lighten the load of all the other bigger books.

7. Read a book that has a movie or a tv series.

The Wave by Todd Strasser, this is a German movie called Die Welle it used to be on Netflix, I am not sure if it still is, but I would highly recommend it. So That’s my choice, and this one was a little harder because I have already read a lot of stuff thats been turned into movies or tv shows.  I read this one as well, review coming soon!

8. Read a graphic novel.

Ms.Marvel by G.Willow Wilson & Adrian Alphona, HANDS DOWN the easiest choice to make. This is a Muslim lead character guys, I am so interested to dive into it, but I actually need to get it first. This may be my last read cuz I would like to get through the stuff I already own first.

9. Read a novel with diverse characters.

How it Went Down by Kekla Magoon, I chose this because of all the things that have gone on in the USA in recent months or I should say years, this really seems like an important read. I know it will probably tug at the heart strings, but this was also an easy choice.

10.Read a summer themed or beach themed novel.

The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler, okay growing up The Little Mermaid was one of my favorite Disney movies, I even had the sing a long VHS and both were played often enough to destroy them. This book is apparently INSPIRED by The Little Mermaid and I needed a summer read, this fit the description and just seems like a sweet quick read.

So there you have it, these are the changes I am making for now. I might make some more but for now I am keeping it as it is. Happy reading!!!
